I've just gone through the irritation of removing glitter polish & will be doing a fresh color shortly, so I'll have some NOTD pics to post tomorrow, but for now I've got some catching up with my book list:

I needed a break from the Women's Murder club & the stress of waiting for the twist to happen, and this is where I started. Sometimes I lose track of publication dates for everything I'm waiting on, so it was a nice surprise when this showed up on Hold for me.

This is one of my favorite series (you'll actually probably hear me say that a lot). It was an interesting experience of judging a book by it's cover, because the first book in the series actually did attract my attention because of the awesome cover art by Daniel Dos Santos. I figured, they're not going to give the great cover artist to the crappy author, and I was right.

It took forever to get this book, because for whatever dumb reason the library only had 1 copy & like 40 requests so I had to wait & wait & wait to get it but now that I've gotten over this rough patch, the rest of the series they have more available books so I (hopefully) shouldn't run into the same problem again.
I still don't feel like I'm back on track as far as my normal reading pace. I guess there has been a lot going on lately, but I've got to find more time to squeeze books in. Thanks for reading.

I've seen Bone Crossed in stores and it does look interesting to me. What's it about?
ReplyDeleteNESSA - Well, it's book 4 in the series, and I would strongly recommend reading the first 3 (Moon Called, Blood Bound & Iron Kissed) before this one.
ReplyDeleteGenre-wise I would classify it as urban fantasy, set on earth but with lots of magical stuff going on. The main character Mercy is a skinwalker, a coyote shape-shifter, who pays the bills as a car mechanic. With no others of her kind around, she was raised by werewolves but was always still treated as an outsider.
It's hard to talk about the plot of the 4th book without giving away a lot of what went on in the first 3, but I would for sure recommend this book & the rest of the series. Even if you only want to check out this one, I feel like the author gives enough summary of the backstory to probably appreciate the story even if you haven't read the preceeding books.
Oh, I love Patricia Briggs! Just read this the other day. Have you tried any Ilona Andrews books? She's fantastic and in a similar style to Briggs...
ReplyDeleteWow I wish I could read books like I used to (before I had my son) - now it's just like I have no time! The Patricia Briggs book(s) sound interesting. I will have to check and see if Walmart has them next time I am there.
ReplyDeleteI really like your book "series" to your blog. It lets me know about books that I would maybe otherwise pass up when I am looking for a new book to read. Glad you add it in with the nail stuff :)
NIXXY - I haven't read that author but I'll add her to my (long) to-read list. I usually read enough that I am always looking for new authors, because my established favorites just can't write enough to keep my busy!
ReplyDeleteBROOKE - For sure pick them up! Even if you just read on your lunch break at work or something I think you'd be surprised how quickly that adds up. So often I see people complain about the same old magazines in the break room, but I never have to worry about that at work or anywhere else, my book is like a safety blanket that keeps my from boredom any time or place LOL.
I'm glad you're enjoying the book portion of my blog - I originally threw them in kind of because I didn't think I'd have enough nail content to post about, but I've gotten so much positive feedback, from you & others also. I know some people would have started a separate blog, but to me they're kind of similar just because they're both (you guessed it) simple little pleasures =) Things I do to escape, relax, feel better.
