MN State Fair Tree Sculptures

This turned out to be a much bigger project than I originally anticipated. When I found out we were going to the fair again, I hit the Internet & managed to find this guide to the tree sculptures.

Now, you'll notice that most of these, although they are from trees that had to be cut down, and in most cases are in the location of the original tree, are mounted on cement bases. This is to prevent them from rotting from the ground up, and you'll see some of the older ones are no longer complete from destruction that happened prior to them being mounted. I think they mount them right away now.

I'll be posting these in the order I took them, with minimal commentary - please feel free to click the link above if you'd like to learn more about any of these =) There were a total of 44, and I went up & down every single street of the fair to find them LOL. My only disclaimer is that I don't know any of the people who happened to end up in the pictures, it was just impossible to get a clear shot most of the time. Enjoy =)

The "real" Smokey the Bear was also in attendance, I saw him walking around & again in the parade

There are actually 2 gophers that are the official mascots of the Fair, Fairborne & Fairchild ... obviously one of the oldest, since only his head is left LOL.

Mom did not like the clown - she thought he was creepy. (Much worse than the more friendly clown a few pics down)

I actually had to go outside of the fair to get a shot of this guy, and around the corner to where they had an area fenced off as a bike parking.

LOL, I don't know why in the world this poor cow ended up with the longest title of them all!

Whew! That's a load of pics LOL. Thanks for reading.

  4. LUCY - They even had an area where there was some live wood-carving going on, but it was not as cool as I hoped - takes too long LOL, I'd like to watch it in time-lapse or something.
