Guest Fail: Nubar Lemon Drop Dazzle

EDIT:  I decided to take a pic of the bottle to show why my mom liked it in the first place, see below =)

First, I have to say that my mom classified this as a fail herself, not me LOL.  She said it was a pretty color, just not on her - honestly I'm not sure if it would look good on my either.  EXTREMELY sheer - this is 5 coats, and you can still totally see her nail line.  Still, maybe I can kill a lemming for someone, so I always show everything, even the fails =)  From the Sweet Nothings collection, this is Nubar Lemon Drop Dazzle.

She did matte-ify this for a couple days & liked it better, but I didn't get a shot of it with that finish.  Then she was still wearing this Friday morning, and I basically ordered her to remove it, I told her it was totally against the rules to be wearing a polish you don't absolutely LOVE on your birthday.  I helped remedy the situation - by giving her her very first water marble!  Blue & dark grey, inspired by the stark winter trees against soft blue sky ... it's awesome.  One of my favorite water marbles ever!  So stay tuned for that =)

NOTD: Zoya Veruschka (5 ways)

You might remember me having some indecisiveness when I wore Orly Iron Butterfly ... going from matte to Konaded to plain glossy.  Well, I apparently do not learn my lesson LOL.  Exactly the same process happened here, you may be wondering how I topped myself & ended up with 5 this time, well, here's what happened:

I started off matte - didn't really have any intention of wearing it like this, but took a few pics:

Then I added some Konad with China Glaze Millennium & image plate m64.  I do like the look of matte with a chrome stamp:

All of that got a topcoat added.  This was supposed to be the end ... but something about it just didn't sit right with me.  Like the chrome almost overwhelmed the base color, you could barely tell I was wearing green:

So, I added 2 more coats of color & another coat of topcoat - this was my actual NOTD for Wednesday, and I was very happy that I'd covered the Konad.  This is an awesome green - the original Konad was really too much:

Then, I was quite lazy & didn't want to change a full manicure, so I decided to give Konad another try, with a bit more subtle hand.  This time I used OPI DS Sapphire & image plate m69.  I think I managed to go from the overwhelming end to the underwhelming end LOL, I did wear this as my NOTD for Thursday but it was honestly barely noticeable:

Whew, thatsa lotta pics!  Not to mention a lot of coats of polish - 10!  And let me tell you, it was not fun to take off, although it wasn't as bad as it would have been before I started soaking off my polish.  LOL I actually liked it best plain with topcoat.

Overall I think this color flatters my shorter nails a little better than Mahoganie did. This is a green that has such personality, such depth, I could just sit & look at it all day.  So much shimmer it's like itty-bitty micro glitter, so much more impressive than it would appear when matte.  I gave in to Zoya's sale a few days ago & placed an order - I have another of their mattes coming, along with just a couple other bottles, so stay tuned in a few days for a mini-haul post =)

Today Is ...

My mom's birthday!  And not just any birthday - this is the big 6-0 =)  Yes, the woman whose favorite nail polish colors - often seen here of course - now include dark grey & green is turning 60.  I took off work, & we're going to Grandma & Grandpa's house for a party - my aunt's bday was Monday, and Grandpa was last Saturday, so we've got a lot to celebrate.

Anyway, I thought I might have time to edit pics before we leave, but I don't.  But I have lots to post this upcoming weekend:
  • Zoya Veruschka 5 ways - yes I was very indecisive with this polish LOL.  I ended up with like 10 coats of polish to take off LOL.
  • Black & Red Water Marble - did this last night on Tee.  I may do a quick tutorial on how I used the colors, because they were a little tricky to work with but the end result was awesome.
  • Taping Tutorial - I got a request for this on a YouTube comment, so I'm going to try & take a couple minutes to show how I do the prepping with tape for water marbling.
  • Color Club Worth the Risque - painting my nails with this right now for today's NOTD
  • Nubar Lemon Drop Dazzle - NOTD by Mom - I'm replacing this today, but you'll have to stay tuned to see with what ... I can't give up all the secretes LOL!
Hope you all have a great day & thanks for reading!

NOTD: ChG Mahoganie

Well, I liked this glitter quite a lot, but I didn't think it was very flattering to my stubby nubbins.   LOL they actually feel pretty normal, but I'm still getting a bit of a mental jolt when I glance down

This is China Glaze Mahoganie, from last summer's release of glitters, & it's a reddish brown with holographic glitter.  Although I don't have to worry about what I wear to my job, I might even go so far as to say that this is a work-appropriate glitter, because it's sparkly, but it's not super bling in most lighting if you know what I mean.  Hard to capture in pics, but I gave it a shot:

Purple Fail

The title of this post was supposed to be NOTD:  Purple Glitter Chevron Marble.  Not talking water marbling, so if you're intimidated by that technique, you might want to try this out.  All you need is a small nail art brush.  & please don't let my fail turn you off LOL.  I have pulled this off successfully several times ... this just wasn't one of them.  I messed up one nail in particular past salvaging (you will see ... pretty much instantly LOL), and at that point I was irritated enough with how the mani was going that I took the whole thing off instead of just redoing that nail.

The thing with this technique is, you want to apply topcoat before it's completely dry, so that it helps everything kind of blend & level out, but if it's too wet, it gets smeary.  Very smeary ... All polish was Sinful Colors, base is Purple Diamond, stripes done with I Love You & Daddys Girl:

If you'd like to check out this technique on a smaller scale - and more importantly, SUCCESSFULLY - you can check out my French Tip Marble Tutorial HERE (which also has a link in the sidebar to that post with more pics).  Thanks for reading.
