Hmmm ... so I guess I've only done 3 book posts so far this year. I am seriously, sadly, off of my game. Still managing to fit in most of what I want, and even find some new authors, but there's a lot that I keep putting off as well. Here's what I've been reading the past couple of months:
Anthology
Urban Fantasy
This anthology featured short stories by: Lisa Tuttle, Gene Wolf, Carrie Vaughn, Esther M. Friesner, Tanith Lee, Holly Phillips, Mike Resnick, P.D. Cacek, Holly Black, Ian Watson, Ron Goulart, Darrell Schweitzer, Chelsea Quinn Yarbro, Gregory Frost, & Peter S Beagle.
All of the stories were about werewolves, which obviously is awesome, but I really did enjoy every story, which is a little rare for an anthology with this many stories & authors, several of which I was reading for the first time.
Charlaine Harris
Sookie Stackhouse Book 10
Urban Fantasy
Well, I think a lot of people know who Sookie is even if you don't read the books, with the HBO TV show True Blood based off of this series. I even saw some fake True Blood when I stopped in Hot Topic today! LOL the flavor was Blood Orange XD. This particular book was kind of slow, I felt like they were kind of tying up a lot of loose ends, but not a whole lot actually happened (although a lot of what did happen was at odds with the changes the TV show is making ... but that's a whole other discussion).
Emma Holly
Fitz Claire Chronicles Books 3 &4
Historical Paranormal Romance
This was an omnibus edition of the 3rd & 4th books, although really neither is very long so the 2 of them together was about normal book length. I like the vampires in this world because they almost do double-duty as werewolves also, since they're shapeshifters.
Patricia Briggs
Raven Book 2
High Fantasy
It had been quite a while since I read the first book in this series (it's only a duology), but it was easy to fall right back into this world; so much so, that I wondered why it had taken me so long to get around to reading this one. I love Patricia Briggs' Mercedes Thompson series, so when I have time I have been going back for some of her older fantasy series like this one.
Laurell K. Hamilton
Anita Blake,Vampire Hunter Book 19
Paranormal Romance
It was good to have a full-length book after the "bonus" novella that she put out a few months ago. Richard was the real surprise in this book (you'll know what I mean if you read the series) because he actually managed to not be as asshole the entire book.
Charlene Teglia
Shadow Guardians Book 1
Paranormal Romance
Well, this was a good story ... what there was of it. A little thin on the plot would be putting it gently LOL. Not that I mind a bit of sexy fluff every now & then =)
Karen Marie Moning
Fever Book 1
Urban Fantasy
Karen Marie Moning
Fever Book 2
Urban Fantasy

Fever Book 3
Urban Fantasy

Fever Book 4
Urban Fantasy
OK, so I was obviously on a kick with this series. I actually found it on the shelves when I didn't have anything on hold ready to pick up, and I was instantly hooked. Hooked quicker than I can remember in a long time, and the 4th book ends on such a cliffhanger! With the 5th (& final) not coming out until December =( #3 is also quite the cliffhanger, but I was able to read the next one right away ... I am trying to distract myself with other books, but I keep wonder what's going to happen to Mac ...
Basic story line here is that MacKayla's sister is killed while she's studying abroad in Dublin, and Mac goes over with the intention to try & bring her killer to justice. And that's when everything goes ... more than a little off. She discovers that she is a sidhe-seer, able to see through the glamour to the fae hiding beneath. Able to see them infiltrating human society & in many cases carelessly feeding from the human population. Unable to find anyone she can trust, she's left to choose the lesser evil & just try to survive, while mastering her powers & trying to save the world from a threat they don't know exists, and are powerless to defend themselves against.
Stephenie Meyere
"An Eclipse Novella"
Urban Fantasy
If you're a "Twihard," you probably already know about this & may even have read it. I got it about a week prior to the movie coming out, so Mom & I were both able to read it before we went, and it's an interesting, if brief, look at what it was like to be a newborn vamp in Victoria's army.
Well, that's not quite caught up, but I think it's enough books for one post =) What do you have a bookmark in at the moment?
Thanks for reading.
