NOTD: China Glaze Secret Peri-Wink-le + China Glaze Fault Line (& A Crackle FAIL)

I started off with 2 coats of China Glaze Secret Peri-Wink-le:

Then I topped it with China Glaze Fault Line from the new Crackle collection.  The cracks generally go in the direction of the brush strokes, so I experimented & decided I was going to apply it at an angle.  Topcoat also made a huge difference:

I loved it!  So much in fact, I thought I'd give the Crackle polish another try.  I wanted something pale & subtle.  I used China Glaze Sci-Fi + Lightning Bolt ... and it kind of sucked IMO:

I actually took this off immediately because I disliked it so much.  Part I think was the chrome polish - it seemed like the crackle didn't want to do as much of it's thing over top ... it may not have been quite dry enough?  I'll have to experiment more sometime when I'm feeling adventurous LOL.

Thanks for reading.

  1. Love the diagonal purple!

I have heard that crackle doesn't work well with certain finishes... Maybe the chrome had something to do with it?

  4. Beautiful! I love that purple!

I tried the Broken Hearted crackle over a fuchsia metallic and it did the same kind of thing as the white so I think you're right... maybe it is the chrome/metallic causing the weirdness. Time for tests, lol!

  9. I like the crackle better when it's not vertical, like a regular brush stroke. Diagonal or horizontal both give a much better look! I love the combination of the blue and the purple. Too bad it doesn't work well on metallic finishes, 'cause these 2 colors would've been really nice.

  10. I think the problem with the white is because white is like a normal color found in the human body (unlike purple) and your nails look like they're about to break for real. But the purple one looks great! I hope we get those crackle polishes here in my country soon :D

  13. try putting a topcoat on over the base polish then when completely dry use the crackle, that seems to have worked for me, I'm wearing crushed candy over OPI DS Radiance :) and I'm happy with the crackle effect I got. Hope this works for some of you.

  14. MELANIE - what a good idea! I'll have to give that a try soon, because I think the brightness of a chrome would look realy cool peeking from under a Crackle =)

  15. Fantastic, beautiful nails. Do you use only water in the cup and then dip in nail polish?

  16. Love the first crackle manicure. Really pretty combination of colors. I'm so annoyed that none of the polish e-tailers have the crackle polish. I keep checking and they're still out of stock. Shame your second manicure was a fail. You did get some good advice. Hope I remember it all whenever I get the polish!

  17. Personal experience and comments on other blogs are saying that the Lightning Bolt doesn't crackle as well as the others. Don't know why, but perhaps the top coat over the base color suggestion will help.

  18. Hey Colette! I love crackle nail polish. It looks amazing on your nails!
Personally I think the OPI Black Shatter is one of the best crackle nails polishes out there. On their website they paired it with the Katy Perry collection and it looks awesome. The Katy Perry collection is full of super sparkly, pretty nail polishes. I think you should get it, it would look great on your nails! (If you have an Ulta coupon of course :) )
