Comparison Swatches: China Glaze Tronica vs. OMG & Kaleidoscope

I think this is the biggest swatching project I ever did =)  To avoid a crapload of unnecessary typing, see below with the swatches for all of the names, but to start out with, here are each of the collections laid out - I rarely get a chance to pull out my polish & just play, so this was kind of fun.  First pic is Tronica, then OMG, next Kaleidoscope, then all of them laid out together:

OK, everything is going to be in the same basic order for all of the following swatch pics - first polish is from the Kaleidoscope collection (3 coats each), the second is from the OMG collection (2 coats each), and the third is from the Tronica collection (2 coats each).  No top coat on any of them.  I did camera flash bottle shots, natural lamp nail wheel swatches, and sunlight swatches.  Enjoy =)

First the teals & dark purples.  This is the only set where the Kaleidoscope didn't match at all.  Let's Do It In 3D, DV8, Techno Teal - Octa Gone Wild, LOL, Virtual Violet:

Rose pinks & lighter purples.  How About A Tumble, BFF, Electra Magenta  - Visit Me In Prism, IDK, Gamer Glam:

Blues & silvers.  Kaleidoscope Him Out, 2NITE, High Def - Sexagon, OMG, Hologram:

Bright pinks & salmons (lots of pinks of one kind or another with all these collections).  Tickle My Triangle, QT, Hyper Haute - Don't Be A Square, TMI, 3D Fantasy:

Peaches & taupes.  Rated Holographic, TTYL, Digital Dawn - Spin Me Round, FYI, Cyberspace:

Yellows/golds & bright greens.  It's My Turn, GR8, Mega Byte - He's Going In Circles, L8R G8R, Laser Lime:

Here's an overview of the nail wheels - so pretty:

After I got done with all of those, and for the most part disappointed with the lack of holo in all of the Tronicas, I added a layer of China Glaze Fairy Dust on them & this is what I got:

Overall - very pretty colors.  Vibrant, pigmented, good application.  Several I probably could have gotten away with just one coat.  Those I've tried work well for marbling & although I haven't tested yet, I have high hopes for their Konading potential.  But China Glaze still needs to re-release the OMG collection.  It's just not fair that they are no longer available.  Or, even better - new colors in the OMG formula.  DV8 & LOL are perfect examples of how awesome linear holos are in a deep vibrant color - I want a forest green, a true red, a navy blue - a real black holo.  Ah, well - we can dream, right?

Thanks for reading =)

I wish i had atleast some of the OMG collection :( I honestly used to bite my nails really really bad up until this past summer, so the OMG collection was before my polish addiction started :( so many great past collections that I missed out on.. boo. a Red, Navy, Forest Green and Black holo would be amazing!!! Is it just me or does that sound like the beginning of really amazing Christmas collection?

  9. Color wise Tronica is exactly like OMG, finish wise it's a dull version of Kaleidoscope, kind of like I expected. But thank you so much for doing this comparison!!

  11. I agree, I was really bummed how muted the holo is in the Tronica collection.

  12. I bought a Tronica polish from someone on Ebay who was passing it off as the same as OMG holo collection. Man was I bummed when I got it. I left them bad feedback about the dupe. Grr.

  13. Thanks so much for the comparison! Makes me sad I missed out on the Kaleidoscope collection. I used Gamer Glam with konad on my current mani and it works great. I'm loving the Tronicas I picked up!

  14. Awesome pics and collection!! Enjoy those purples and even pinks :) How do you keep track of what color is what later? I saw on another blog, forgot which one, where she did labels stuck in the middle of the wheel, with the words going diagonal all the way around. I think it was made on Adobe, but I'm not good at that yet.

  15. Thank you for this, I think you just cured me of a major lemming as far as Tronica goes. I'm after that pronounced rainbow 'flame' that the OMG collection has. Tronica is pretty, but I want more rainbow!

  21. I'm disappointed that these aren't as holo as the others. I still love the colors. Looks great with the Fairy Dust on them.

  22. I bought 3D Fantasy and it's not really holo. More of a shimmer. I was hoping for an OMG linear holo. I guess it'd be a good color to wear to the office...

  25. LORI IDA - I have a ridiculous memory for polish LOL. I will find old marble experiments & remember what colors they are. For this, I tried to just keep them all in order (by the number on the bottom of the bottle) for all the pics =)

TERRI - Icing polishes are available at the Icing store - it's kind of a more grown-up Claire's =)

  26. I saw these in the store and left them there. It just didn't sit right with me and sure enough here is why. First of all Thank you so much for all your hard work and showing us all of these collections. You are so awesome for doing this.

Lining up Tronica with OMG and Kaleidoscope was exactly what I though. They are the exact same colors but with out the stuff we loved in OMG and Kaleidoscope. Come on CG. Just re-release OMG or even Kaleidoscope for the many many who want it and use your ability to bring us new stuff for honest to goodness new stuff. Other colors not the same regurgitated stuff with out the parts we like and then slap a new name on it.

Your suggestions for new colors was spot on too.

  27. Amazing collection - I think you are one of the few and only rare fortunate people to have all 3 of these in their entirety! Are you thinking of adding halo hues and hologlam to this impressive comparison? (because I would looove to see it,too!)

  28. You really should be making lots of money on your craft, someone just published a book on their nail art, you really should do one on your water marbles.
