Semi-Fail NOTD: Claire's Memaid Funky French

I don't know quite what to say about this.  It was disappointing on so many levels.  I knew that Claire's Mermaid was sheer, and I thought I had a pretty good plan for dealing with that - a black french tip with a silver smile line.  I used Color Club Black for my tips - I really should have used some polish thinner on it beforehand, but it was sooo late, and I was sooo lazy.  I used Art Club Satin Silver striper for the smile line, a very pale silver.  I did 2 coats of Mermaid over the top.  And got this:

Poor application all around, sloppy french tips - if it hadn't been 11 o'clock I'd have taken it off & started from scratch.  I should have picked something more foolproof in the first place ... oh well.  I even had one girl at work tell me they weren't up to my usual standard, which horrified my mother that anyone would say anything so mean - of course, she liked them & didn't see most of the glaring errors that bugged me all day LOL.

Thanks for reading.

  1. I tell ya some people are quick to to point out flaws...what a mean thing to say :( Well, I think its very pretty. From my monitor your tips look purple not black and your smile lines look a little darker then mermaid not silver. So, I say teal and purple are great combos :) Regardless of the flaws you still rock in my book :)

  3. RMCANDLELIGHT - I guess I didn't really rake it as mean because I agreed LOL.

AAMINAHS MOM - I thought they would be more teal, but over black the pink undertone makes a purplish color ... weird.

  5. Well, it's obviously not perfect (not as terrible as you say though x) ), but I simply love the colours and the idea itself, so I can't help but love it all :D

  9. I think your being a tad hard on yourself Colette, I think their cool and very pretty. You always accept the challenge of making raw / clear nails a work of art and it's my opinion you fared very well with this one :). Keep up the awesome job on maintaining and polishing your long lovely natural fingernails and blog Colette!
