Hack, Hack, Hack! Went The Clippers

If you're faint of heart or weak of stomach, turn back now. Because some of these pics are of my nails in a very rough state. You have been warned =)

So, you saw the results of a broken patch last post, here's the even further aftermath, after removal of polish but patches still on. The polish got all gnarly in the seam so you can really see how bad the index finger is LOL:

One of the reasons I've been so hesitant to cut my nails down, patching them to the nth degree, is that I really need to learn how to be NOT a klutz with long nails. I'm actually having a hell of a time typing this, because the keys feel like they aren't where they should be LOL.

In addition to the disaster on my index finger, you may recall that my middle nail almost bit it at the beginning of September. These pics are after taking off the patches, and you can see the middle finger is growing out pretty good, but got another tear on the opposite side lower down. This is after quite a bit of 100% acetone so excuse the extreme dryness:

I was going to take both hands all the way down to the fingertips, so that I didn't have to deal with any patches, but I decided to put up with a few patches & some temporary unevenness. I guess it's not horrible. But it's the first time in my life I think that my right hand has been in better shape than my left:

The left ring & middle are still going to require some small patches, down near the nail line. On the right, I'm debating on my index & middle, the peeling is almost grown out completely but they still feel kind of weak. The right ring is also a little shorter now than pictured above because you can see the remains of an old break - well, that chipped off before I could decide whether to patch it or not, making my decision for me.

Tee says I have absolutely no right to complain because even my shortest nail is longer than most of hers right now LOL. And I do know it could be so much worse, but I glance down & it just looks WRONG! But I'm hoping they will grow out straight (since I've cut off everything that was curving...) and if they do then I'll cut the right hand down, because those nails curve as badly if not worse.

So, all that said & done & shown, I'll be doing my NOTD pics mainly featuring my right hand until the left grows out to something approaching normal. So bear with me, as I always feel unwontedly gawky posing with my right hand; you'd think it would be easier with your dominant hand, but I know you other bloggers know what I'm talking about =) Not to mention the juggling act that is trying to work my camera with my left LOL.

Pics a little later of the very first stubby NOTD featuring Righty =) Thanks for reading.

  3. Your nails are long enough to cut back. Good luck with the patches. I can never get those things to look neat. You don't have to cut them way down. You have nice length so they will look fine if you cut some of them off. Whatever you do your nails will still be lovely.

  4. If I may ask - how is this "patching up" done?
What products do you use for this? I'd need to learn this ;))

  5. Hi Colette, sorry to hear about the casualties. I know how much I hate it when one of mine break, I hate that icky sensation when you can feel everything on your fingertips, YUCK! Do you use oil on your nails? I do, and I only break one or two nails a YEAR! I know you wear polish, but putting oil around the cuticles and under the free edge (is that the correct term for the white part?) really helps. If I didn't, my nails would get all dry, chippy and peely. I like the new length on your left, you should still show it in your posts, or at least some. Best of luck, Michelle

  6. GILDEDANGEL - It was hard, but I'm hoping it will be worth it =)

AURORA - Tell me about it LOL, I'm already impatient

LUCY - I feel like every time I put on a patch I do it a little differently or learn something new ... they are a constant learning curve.

VANESSA - I use Swiss Silk Wraps & IBD Brush-On Gel Resin. I did a little tutorial a while ago you can check out HERE =)

MICHELLE - I know the feeling you mean, thankfully I didn't have to cut them back quite that far. I do use oil & I try to remember & use lotion any time I wash them. I'm sure the left hand will still sneak in from time to time, especially when I get sick of trying to pose my right properly =)
