Looking For Recommendations

For cuticle oil. It's not something I've ever felt like I needed before, but maybe because I am doing my nails more often & so exposed to more polish remover, my cuticles & also my hyponychium (I had to look that word up actually ... it's the part where your nail bed ends & the free edge begins) are starting to get dry. To the point where even though I'm being fanatic about lotion & moisturizers, the tips of my fingers, under my nails, are still really dry.

Anyway, there are only about a bajillion different kinds of cuticle oil out there, so if you like yours, leave me a comment with what it is & why you like it. Thanks for reading.

  1. My favorite cuticle oils are CND Solar Oil and OPI Avoplex. I have the Sally Beauty card ($5 a year), which makes Solar Oil A LOT more affordable (almost 50% off the retail price). I get Avoplex at Big Lots (bundled with OPI Ridge Filler) for $6.99. I don't really prefer one over the other; I grab whichever bottle happens to be closest.

  2. Just got my Zularis order, as reviewed by Kelly of Vampy Varnish, and I love the cuticle oil.

Up until now I was using Solar Oil as well as Avoplex, but I'm going to be giving this a good solid couple of weeks by itself and then review it myself.

    HTH! =]

  3. I don't have a favorite yet - that's what I get for being picky with ingredient lists. But I'm thinking of trying Avon's new cuticle balm (depending on ingredients), and if I do, I'll let you know how that goes.

The other thing that seems to work pretty good is straight olive oil - and I think I'll try the oil combinations I'm using on my face too (Sweet Almond oil, coconut oil, & chamomile). I'll keep you posted on how those work...

  5. I have OPI Avoplex to go. I'm not sure if that's the right name, but it's in a tube and it's for on the go. It smells very tropical and it's awesome.
I also use Nfu-Oh's lavender cuticle oil at night. I bought it for the cool bottle and the smell.

  6. I just got some two samples of cuticle stuff from barielle, and I will be doing a review of them soon, so I will let you know.

I really don't use cuticle oil though - gasp!!!

  7. THE ASIAN GIRL - WIXBETTY - JAMIE - VANESSA - NESSA & BROOKE - Thank you all for your suggestions! Those of you who are in the process of testing samples, please let me know what you think when your trial is finished.

I've got to do something in a hurry because I've actually got like a crack/split on one finger. I've never had a problem with cracking skin on my hands before (even during Minnesota winters) but I guess regular lotion is not going to get up under there unless I go at it with a q-tip or something LOL. I'm hoping oil will kind of just "leak" under (like the polish remover obviously is).

  8. When I used to get my nails done the salon owner told me to soak my nails in warmed olive oil. I have yet to do it. I wash my hands frequently and always use hand creme. My hands and nails still get dry. Sometimes the skin aroung my nails splits and that really hurts. I use Solar Oil and Creative Cuticle Eraser. When I remember to use them they do help.

  10. LUCY & THE PBG - I'll have to give the olive oil a try. I also read about using warm oil from Ji Baek (owern of Rescue Beauty Lounge) when I read the book Rescue Your Nails & I'd kind of forgotten the advice until you guys reminded me.

  11. T.I.P.S. is fabulous! I've used all the products mentioned above, and this takes the cake by a mile. I found it hard to believe there could be much of a difference in cuticle treatments -- but this stuff is magic. The bottles are tiny - but it doesn't matter. I've signed up for auto-delivery so I'm never without! I hope you give it a try - you'll be absolutely amazed. My cuticles just "disappeared" after about 2 days... QVC .com is where I purchase.

  12. MRSKIWIYETI - Thanks for the suggestion! I am currently tryinga bottle of the Solar Oil, but the almondy smell is not my favorite. I may give T.I.P.S. a try, especially as I'm already a QVC shopper for my ProStrong products and I'm almost due to place an order.

  13. A65218 is the kit I tried. That's funny you mentioned the smell orf the Solar Oil. I felt the same way. I also found the Solar Oil sort of wound up smeared all over the tips of my fingers. The TIPS doesn't have the smell, and it's a tad bit thicker, so it stays right on your cuticles. I think you'll love it. Let me know?!

  14. What products do you use of ProStrong? I just noticed QVC has a sale on a 10 piece polish set for $26.64. A87299 I've never tried the brand before. Do you like it?

    Thanks!

  15. KATHRYN - I only have a couple of thier polishes, and I have to say it's been such a long time since I used them that I don't remember how well they applied or wore. My favorite ProStrong product is the Instant Nail Builder which is like a super-thick base coat. I usually go with A149225 although I don't really need their top coat now that I use Seche.
